Picking a venue for Mike and Enrica's Sweet Pea's Cafe wedding in Bar Harbor was a no-brainer. Enrica's family owns the farm. She spent a lot of time there growing up. Moments before the ceremony, she mentioned to me that the counter she was sitting at inside the tasting room was where she worked throughout high school. So after meeting Mike, introducing him to Bar Harbor, and getting engaged years later, they knew the farm was the perfect spot to get married.
In our pre-wedding communications, Mike and Enrica talked about how excited they were to hang out with everyone in Bar Harbor. They only wanted a handful of portraits so they could focus on enjoying the day with loved ones. They gave us free rein to document the day however we wanted, which was incredible. I will say, though, that these two made it extremely easy.
As I walked into Enrica's hotel room, I could feel her excitement filling the entire space. She was downright giddy! I couldn't help but smile behind my camera the whole day as she'd burst into laughter, start twirling in her dress, or randomly start pumping her arms whenever she remembered that she was getting married/ was married. There was even a moment when someone pointed out that she still had petals in her hair from the end-of-ceremony petal toss, and Enrica exclaimed, "That's my dream! Let's leave them in!" It was adorable.
A few weeks before the wedding day, Enrica emailed to tell me that Mike had an injury from a basketball accident and that it might affect his ability to stand for portraits. She also said they'd probably scrap the first dance. Well, Mike was an absolute trooper on the day. There was an occasional stop for a quick rest, but he'd jump right back into the festivities. And when it came time for the dance floor to open up, these two were met with a room full of cheers when they decided to go for the first dance.
I also learned that Enrica's sister was due to give birth at any moment and might not make it to the wedding. However, the baby decided to hold out until after the wedding, and it was obvious that the sisters were thrilled to be with each other. They laughed, cried, hugged, and held hands throughout the day, and I've never wished for a sister more.
I'm so happy that we got to document this wedding day. Here are our favorites from their Sweet Pea's Farm wedding!
