Sancie and Aaron are both first responders, so finding time to slip away for a backyard wedding in Northport, Maine, was challenging. Aaron’s family has owned the property for years, and after spending time there together, they knew it was the perfect spot to host family and friends for a picnic lunch after exchanging vows.
I rarely photograph a wedding on a Thursday at noon, so it felt strange (and good!) to break up the workweek by spending a few hours with these two. You can’t tell from these photos, but we were hot. It was a sunny August day, the temps hit close to 90 degrees, and there wasn’t a single cloud in the sky. After the celebration, the group planned to take the path down to the ocean and jump in after lunch. It’s such a bummer that I wasn’t there for that part of the day. I probably would’ve jumped in too!
These two have such a sweet connection. It was present in so many moments, like when Aaron started crying during their first look and when Sancie would completely light up when she looked at him.
Their daughters were an essential part of the day and exchanged necklaces as part of the ceremony. It was such an excellent way to represent the family coming together.
After the ceremony, it was time for lunch, a cake cutting, and a toast with Sancie’s aunt’s homemade limoncello she had made from her lemon trees and sent from California to help them celebrate; then, it was time for me to head home. Our time together felt far too short, but I’m so glad that I got to be part of the day.
Here are some of my favorite images from the day!
