Tara and Eric live in Florida, but they've owned a summer home near Lubec, Maine for the last few years. They decided to surprise everyone (including Tara's daughters) by eloping at West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Lubec while they were here for the summer, and reached out to see if we could photograph the event so they could have some photos as "proof for their families."
Lubec is our favorite spot in Maine, and we spend as much of our free time there as possible, so we jumped at the chance to spend the evening with Tara and Eric.
We arrived early at the lighthouse so I could see how accessible some of my favorite spots would be for a bride in heels. When we returned to the spot where we were to meet Tara and Eric, my heart instantly melted as I saw them standing together. Eric was wearing an adorable puffin shirt for the occasion. They looked so kind and excited, and I knew our time with them would feel much too short.
We also got to act as their witnesses and sign their marriage certificate, which always makes it feel even more special to us.
After exchanging their vows in front of West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, we wandered through the nearby hiking trails of Quoddy Head State Park. Tara scaled hills and climbed down root-covered embankments in her heels like a pro. She laughed and said, "It's fine! I don't mind," every time I apologized and promised it would be worth it.
Here are our favorite photos from Tara and Eric's West Quoddy Head Lighthouse elopement. I highly recommend Lubec if you're looking for a stunning location with rugged cliffs in a quieter part of Maine.
