Chelsea & Nick’s Portland Maine Elopement at City Hall & Portland Head Light

This year bright two of the hottest wedding days I've experienced in my nine years of photographing weddings. Chelsea and Nick's Portland, Maine elopement at City Hall was the first on that scorching list. Flying to Maine for a somewhat spontaneous elopement, they chose an exceptionally hot day!

Chelsea, finishing school and living out of state, had most of the planning expertly handled by her stepmom, Julie. Julie's meticulous planning made the day seamless. She did everything from discussing plans with me to ensuring snacks and chilled champagne at every turn. I had only exchanged one email with Chelsea, so I was a bit nervous starting the day at the charming Portland Harbor Hotel. That feeling vanished when I met Chelsea. Her radiant energy, infectious smile, and laughter made me feel instantly part of the group. When I later met Nick, his immediate compliment on my shoes set a positive tone. Notably, he was rocking a stylish pair himself.

The ceremony, an impromptu first dance, and some refreshments took place at Portland City Hall before we headed to Portland Head Light for final portraits. Battling intense humidity at the lighthouse, Chelsea and Nick's enthusiasm for finding fun portrait spots never waned. And before we delve into the pictures, I must mention the Avengers backpack. Belonging to Chelsea's best friend's son, it played a crucial role, carrying essentials like makeup for touch-ups, hydration, and wedding rings. Every wedding needs an Avengers backpack.
