Megan and Derek decided they wanted to kick off their Gouldsboro, Maine wedding weekend with a welcome party full of pizza, beer, pie, and contra dancing. Megan’s aunt owns a campground in Gouldsboro and had built a new barn recently, so they knew it was the perfect place to have a seaside wedding full of nature while also offering a space for guests to slip out of the cold and dance. If you’re looking for a unique way to welcome your wedding guests to Maine, I highly recommend looking into giving them a new experience, like contra dancing. While guests were hesitant to leave their tables at first, they were having a blast once they trickled out onto the floor and let loose. Also, I had no idea that contra dancing was so fast-paced! I was constantly running, ducking, and squatting to keep up.
Nevertheless, it was a fun and relaxed way to introduce guests before the wedding day— something I highly recommend! And while it’s certainly not necessary to have your wedding photographers there for your rehearsal dinner or welcome party, it is beneficial to get everyone comfortable around the cameras. Plus, so many great candid moments happen there as well!
Many thanks to Rachel Sisson for coordinating the entire weekend and keeping things running so smoothly. It’s always so fantastic and stress-free to work a wedding with her. And to Fogtown Brewing and Ruth & Wimpy’s for nourishing all the hungry dancers.
I can’t wait to share Megan and Derek’s wedding day next week, but for now, here are some photos from their welcome party!
