Sara and Ian are getting married next July at the Harborside Hotel in Bar Harbor, so we decided to meet up this past October at Ian’s parent’s coastal home in Hancock Point, Maine for their engagement photos. It was mid-October, so the foliage was at peak perfection. I was blown away when I pulled up to the property, sitting directly next to a perfect rocky Maine beach.
In April, we headed north to photograph Tiffany and Mark’s maternity photos in Millinocket, Maine. Way back in January, Tiffany and Mark kicked off 2021 by getting married. It had been a mild winter so far, so we made plans to take their wedding portraits at the New England Outdoor Center with Mount Katahdin in the background. Well… Mother Nature had other plans. We got hit with the first big storm of the year. It was so snowy that we couldn’t see the mountain at all!
I thought engagement photos in Lubec, Maine (the easternmost point in the U.S.) would be a hard sell when Erin asked for location suggestions, but after getting to explore the area more with Joel during quarantine, it had quickly become a favorite spot in Maine. I had visited Quoddy Head State Park in high school because my brother attended college in nearby Machias, but I’d never gotten the chance to visit the adorable downtown. Joel and I explored more last fall and got the chance to hike the Bold Coast trail and Boot Head Preserve, as well as try out Lubec Brewing and some good restaurants that hadn’t closed up for the season yet.
It’s time to share our best Maine portraits and engagement photos from 2020! I think we can all agree that 2020 was a very trying year. Our little business saw so many cancellations and postponements due to Covid-19, and while it was a bit stressful, we were so grateful to be able to adapt and photograph as many people as possible from a safe distance. We were incredibly lucky to have clients who were just as cautious as we were staying at home, wearing masks, going through mass amounts of hand sanitizer, and getting tested before our sessions.
I can’t say too much about these two for privacy reasons, but I can say that I had so much fun taking their engagement photos in Acadia National Park back in October. They got engaged the morning of our session (YAY!) during a stroll along the Shore Path in Bar Harbor, so there were a lot of very excited, blissful giggles throughout our session.
Last month, we met up with Nathalie and Eric for their engagement photos in Bristol, Maine. Nathalie has been visiting the area with her family since she was young and she has passed her love for Bristol on to Eric, so they knew it was where they wanted to get married when they got engaged. We’ll be photographing Eric and Nathalie’s wedding next October and revisiting one of our favorite wedding venues–The Contented Sole. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s located on the water in New Harbor, and it has some very tasty seafood. Plus, the space is gorgeous! We can’t wait.
While we occasionally take on maternity photos, it’s very rare that you’ll see family photos on our site. We focus mainly on couples and weddings, but occasionally I make an exception for good friends and past clients. Well, my best friend of almost 20 years recently had her second baby boy, so obviously I wanted to photograph her maternity photos before he arrived. We took their maternity photos at the University of Maine where we both attended college after graduating high school together.
Kary and Mike’s Ogunquit, Maine engagement photos had to be rescheduled multiple times due to travel restrictions, etc., so I was thrilled when we ended up with such a perfect evening! We met up on the Marginal Way to grab some photos on the rocky cliffs, and were blessed with a sailboat hanging out in the background for most of the photos—we even joked that we’d get to play “Where’s Waldo?” with it while looking through the images. Kary had mentioned in an email that she was a sucker for beach roses, so I was so excited to find a perfect little spot with them while Joel and I walked the path earlier in the day.
2020 is here, which means it’s time to share our favorite Maine engagement photos and couples portraits that we created in 2019! Our couples are the best, truly. I always tell myself that the next season couldn’t possibly be as good as the season before, but we’ve been doing this for ten years, and our couples continue to prove me wrong. The wedding day can be a bit of a whirlwind, so I’m always so excited when our couples decide to book an engagement session because we get to spend time with them in a more relaxed setting. This year, in addition to engagement sessions, we got to create portraits of one of our 2018 couples who were back in Maine for a visit. We also got to photograph one of our couples the day after their wedding when they were still blissfully tired. These sessions were all so different because some of our couples were meeting us for the first time, while others felt like we were just picking up where we left off. I’m such a fan of both.
I spent my birthday with Eliza and Aaron creating their engagement photos at Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. We couldn’t have asked for a better day. The days before had been rainy and cold, but magically, the sun came out the day of our session and we were blessed with almost 70-degree weather in late October. We were pretty happy about it and trying to soak it up before the temps dropped again in the days following.
If you think these two look familiar, that’s because we photographed Melissa and Lucky’s wedding on Peaks Island last year. Quite often, our couples live far from Maine, so we only get to see them on the wedding day before they head back home. Melissa and Lucky live in Texas, so we assumed we probably wouldn’t cross paths again anytime soon. However, Melissa reached out at the end of summer to let me know they were coming to Maine in October to enjoy the fall foliage. She was hoping to do some couple portraits in Acadia National Park while they were around. I was so excited! We only had one date that could work with both of our schedules, so we crossed our fingers that the weather would be kind. Well, it was perfect. It was a stunning October day. I’m so excited that we got to catch up with these two. We started at Jordan Pond before heading to Eagle Lake. We also found some pretty spots along the Park Loop Road to grab some photos where the light was wonderful.
